Director, editor, and cinema instructor based in Tehran, Iran

Omid Tootoonchi (b. 1986, Tehran) is an Iranian director, editor, and cinema instructor. Holding a degree in engineering, he began his cinematic journey in 2007 at the Iranian Youth Cinema Society (IYCS) under the mentorship of the acclaimed stylist filmmaker, Shahram Mokri. After directing several short films, his 2012 short, Rain, won the Best Editing Award and was nominated for Best Directing at the Tehran International Short Film Festival. Around the same period, he further refined his craft by attending Asghar Farhadi's specialized actor-direction workshop.

In 2014, Tootoonchi directed his debut feature film, Neurasthenia, which received prestigious Grand Prize and Talent of the Year nominations at the Warsaw and Hamburg international film festivals. Over the past decade, he has dedicated much of his career to film editing and education, lecturing at prominent institutions such as the Inverse School and IYCS. With a prolific portfolio of editing over 100 short films, commercials, and reality shows, Tootoonchi has returned to directing after a four-year hiatus, bringing a mature, formalist, and auteurist vision to his latest project.
